Project Overview: Spirits on the Beach is a long-exposure photography project that uses light painting to produce dramatic, atmospheric imagery in a nighttime coastal setting. The project was an exploration of what becomes possible when technical precision and spontaneous movement combine.
My Role: I developed the concept, planned and executed the shoot, and completed all post-production editing. Each image required careful management of exposure settings, camera placement, and the movement of handheld light sources during the shot.
Creative Approach: With the shutter held open, I moved light sources through the frame to "paint" flowing shapes and patterns against the dark beach environment. The process is inherently experimental — results emerge from the interaction between planned movement and unpredictable light — which required a willingness to iterate and refine across multiple exposures.
Outcome: The series demonstrates a strong command of manual exposure technique and an instinct for using light as a compositional tool, producing images that are technically intentional while retaining a sense of spontaneity.
